Even though not completely finished, this is easily my favourite room in the house. It is hard to imagine that only 15 months ago, this room still had a concrete floor and rotten wooden planks on the beams, these have all been removed and luckily the beams were still solid (though they have now been fully treated to stay on the safe side).
We decided to make this into the master bedroom, the old external door was replaced with doors to match the rest of the house and we now have yet another sealed room, with no wind or rain coming in, though now that summer has hit the draught may have been quite nice.
The wooden ceiling (or what was once a ceiling) is removed, but the beams are left and fully treated, these make a great addition to the room.
The end alcove has had a partition wall added and becomes our ensuite. The bathroom door is restored from an old one we found, and once painted looks great, a big tip is to never throw anything away when you are completing a renovation, as it may appear to be junk at the time, you will usually find a way to use/salvage it.
The small corridor under the external stairs has a door to close it off. This gives easy access to all the water pipes going into the bathroom.
But to me, this is the best bit of the house, and once the building site outside is finally removed it will have a wonderful private patio.
My feelings of homesickness which lasted a long time on this house are well and truly gone, and I can’t believe how lucky we are to live here, so much changes in just one year!
